Project Veracity, is a multi-channel audio transport protocol using an ordinary guitar cable. (Patent Pending) The system is designed to transmit six channels of digital audio down a guitar cable, one for each string on a guitar. This allows you to mix and apply effects on your guitar on a per string basis, allowing all kinds of neat possibilities. A sub $5.00 dsp and a few ADCs is all that is required to implement the protocol. The circuit uses very little power, similar to that of an MP3 player. The idea was to reduce the cost enough to make it practical to include inside of any guitar regardless of the cost. Another goal of the project was to remain compatible with existing guitar technology by using the existing guitar cable. A simple toggle switch that selects between the digital multi-channel transport, or the more traditional analog transport currently in use today. This ensures that a veracity equipped guitar could be used with all existing amplifiers, or it could be used in a multi channel mode for added flexibility. The technology is intended to be in direct competition with the 'killer application' of gibsons appropriately named magic project. Their technology uses an ethernet transport protocol requiring quite a bit of smarts on board the guitar and a new cable. And while this approach has its merits, it will ultimately drive up the cost of the product to the point where it is impractical to include in a modestly priced guitar. In contrast, veracity was designed to be cheap, most of the smarts is done outside of the actual guitar where it should be. Also by not changing the cable, existing guitars can be easily retrofitted to use the multichannel protocol. Veracity does not have all of the capabilities of magic nor is it ment as a general purpose cabling scheme. It was designed to do one thing and do it well, rather than using a general purpose solve all problems approach. Please contact me regarding licensing this product. |
